PS: ok missed the commas, I understood badly :))
Regarding the RAM, does the system reboot when posting with no image, or its staying on constantly? The reboot will cause the fans to spin up

I'm seeing nothing.  No fans moving.  No BIOS.  Nothing.  The only sign that the motherboard has power is the AMD Promontory x470 showing a red light under it flashing on and off.  That's it.

I've now replaced the PSU with a better one that has both the 8-pin and 4-pin cables, and attached them both.  Still no change.

I was wondering if anyone knows what this error code is. I am doing a new build and can't get any video. The CPU is a Ryzen 2700X. I re-installed the CPU twice so I know it's seated and installed properly. I tried two different brands of Ram. I get no video at all and no beeps. The screen on the motherboard gives me the E6 code. Did I get a bad board?

back to basics

make sure the complete 24 pin power is connected
make sure you have the 4+4 cpu/eps power lead connected to the 8 pin and make sure it is the right way round (also make sure your not trying to force a 6+2 gpu (graphics into this)
make sure ram is inserted into slot a2 and b2 and make sure its pressed down in firmly both ends
doule check you have connected all the case plugs into the correct pins on the motherboard
eg reset is reset/ pwr button is power /hdd led is the correct way round etc etc
make sure the graphics card is fully inserted and has power lead plugged these are the 6+2 plugs

did you definately insert the cpu the correct way round ?

to be honest im a bit worried about the initial problem of 20/24 way power not being clear to you as to the rest of the build being correct

Update: I tried with a single stick of HyperX ram HX421C14FBK2/8 which is on the compatibility list and was pulled from a working build. I still get no video at all and a clear CMOS does nothing. I cannot find any info on this E6 error code associated with this motherboard.

The card is an R9 380X. You think that is the problem? Thanks in advance.

That card shouldn't be the problem. It is new enough.

Have you updated the BIOS on your X370 Taichi? There is an update required for the 2nd generation Ryzen series:

See also the BIOS section on the Asrock page:

Version 4.60: Update AMD AGESA to PinnaclePI-AM4_1.0.0.1a.

The bit that caught my eye was  " So, the original had Win 10 installed from the beginning.  My out of the box original install was Win 10, kept updated, etc.  "
Now this could refer to a recent 1709  ISO from MS, in which case false alarm, but it could refer to an older version such as a boxed CD version 1703 but with all updates to present.
If the latter then I suggest that therein lay at least some of the problems.
The only other thing of course is the usual , make sure it has the latest chipset and radeon drivers, installed in the right order.
One more item: I have found that the various powerplans can have a effect, I now choose performance and it seems to cure many annoying  issues.
Then again, I am on a different build, so may not apply universally.

Sorry for any confusion.  I will clarify (hopefully).

On my prior PC (super old) I had Windows 10.  I made a Win 10 USB install via Win Media Creation Tool.

Cut to scene two, early Dec after Black Friday sales, all new parts arrive for all new PC!   Included in this pile of parts is a 100% blank, new, 1TB WD HD.  Upon putting all my new components together for my all new PC, I proceeded to install windows on that shiny, new, completely blank HD.  I used the USB, then did all updates etc.

That HD was subsequently wiped multiple times, and Windows 10 was again reinstalled via USB (from a new USB actually, but still using same procedure w/Windows Media Creation Tool) and updated appropriately.  Shut downs continue.

Then came the SSD - new from the store - plugged in by itself, Win 10 installed from yet ANOTHER  new USB (using the same Windows Media Creation Tool).

I have never had a boxed CD version of Windows.

Regarding the power:  When I first put together everything on the new computer, I was using the default power plan.  Upon my first few shut downs, I changed to the "performance" power plan.  After more shut downs, I downloaded the AMD chipset drivers for the "AMD balanced power plan", which is what I have it set to currently.  There have been no changes in the frequency of my shut downs with any of those power plans.

I tried using earphones and headphones (3.5mm), 3 of them total, and it doesn't change anything.
Also i am using only 1 sound device per time, so no multiple devices.
I use the ports on I/O panel, i do not have front panel connected at all.

I tried all the latest version of drivers for ALC1220 from all the brands. Gigabyte had the latest driver released 2 days ago, but always the same problem.

I like to add that Wake up on Sleep no longer works. When I wake up the computer, it will turn on, then nothing happens for a minute, and it shuts down.

I wonder if this is because I have C-States disabled.

With game is easy to reproduce the problem, but it happens in general. For example when i watch Twitch (its site for live streaming games), and i open 1 stream or 2 streams and i do general stuff it cuts off too.

Any game that has fullscreen mode, will cut the sound almost immediately.

AMD Motherboards : 4,xx Bios Issues

Hello

I have the x370 Pro Gaming and I am having m.2 boot issues will all of the 4.xx bios, so 4.40, 4.41, 4.60, 4.61 and 4.70.

When I am on P3.30 everything works as it should.  When ever I update to a 4.xx bios my Samsung XP941 512GB m.2 is no longer bootable.  It is still detected in the storage configurations view however does not show up as a bootable device under the boot tab.

If I disable CSM it is no longer detected in any 4.xx bios.  I also had this issue when I was on the x370 Taichi.  I returned that board for this one thinking it may have been a board issue, but there is clearly something wrong with the Bios.

I have a 2700 I can't use because the board wont boot off the m.2.  I have to keep my 1700 in to use bios P3.30

Bellow is a link to a bunch of screenshots I took

AMD Motherboards : X370 Pro4 - 5 beeps - no love

Doing my first AMD build in a decade.  Getting no love from my new X370 Pro4 and I can't find a guide to the beep codes.  The CPU and RAM are on the compatibility lists.

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 YD1600BBAEBOX (box version of YD1600BBM6IAE)
RAM: G.SKILL FORTIS 2x8GB DDR4 2400 F4-2400C15D-16GFT (In A2/B2)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 (works in old PC)
SSD: SAMSUNG 960 EVO MZ-V6E500BW NVMe (256GB version on the lists)

I get 5 beeps at startup and nothing works.  If I take out the video card, then I get 2 sets of 5 beeps.  If I don't plug the power into the video card then I get no beeps and nothing happens.  Video card tested ok in old PC.

Same behavior with only one DIMM.  Same behavior with the NVMe drive removed.  With the video card in the fan spins down on the video card after the 5 beeps.  Nothing ever shows on the monitor at any point.  The 256GB version of the NVMe is on the list and the 512GB works for others, same behavior without it installed anyway.

I've reseated everything, tried one DIMM, pulled everything but CPU, RAM and GPU, most everything I know to try.  Any suggestions appreciated.  Thanks!

That did not answer my question.  But okay.

So, what bios are you using?  Are you overclocked?

Have you tried the GPU in another PCIe slot?

If you have not already, pull the power from the system and take out the battery for a few hours. You can clear CMOS with the jumper too while you are at it just to be 100% certain things clear properly.

Hi people!

After looking at pictures of an AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard, seems like the EEPROM BIOS chip is in a SOP/SPI SMD socket (don't know if it's the correct name).

If I have no other options, could I remove the chip and program it with an external flasher, like the USB CH341A programmer?
