- check if there is a sound in Ubuntu
- fresh install of Win 10 1703 (not newer, newer are not too well for AMD for now)
- after the fresh install you SHOULD have SOME audio

If you don't have ANY audio/sound in Ubuntu or the fresh Win install after following my steps, I'd suggest you RMA the board.

Keep us posted!

P.S. Did you check if other device can drive your sound system, e.g. your phone or your laptop?

What spots should the flare x be in? I have 4 add lots. That's about all I'm capable of doing with my current knowledge. I'm worried about screwing something up.

Try disconnecting the optical drive and booting again. Sometimes optical drives cause issues (seems to be model specific). You may also want to try different SATA cables, if they are old they could be damaged internally.

I highly recommend picking up an SSD, it will improve responsiveness dramatically as well as cut down boot and install times.

Also, of you have not already, clear CMOS. It often helps with a fresh build that is having issues.

Use this method:

Good luck and don't worry, we will get you up and running. I will check in on your thread again tomorrow, I am off to bed as it is 2am here.

zfornier, please post a complete set of specifications as I have in my signature.  We need to know what architecture and version of W10 you are installing and what BIOS version you have.  Where did your W10 come from and what install media are you using and how was it created?  Please open your BIOS, hit F9 then F10 and see if that helps.  Enjoy, John.

Okay so I will unplug the optical drive, and hopefully be able to pick up a SSD tomorrow. I thought it might have been the HDD because like I said it is probably from 06 and has seen along life span.

I got the windows 10 from the media creation tool i think its called? I believe it is the fall creators version. its x64 version as well. using a usb install, and it freezes alot when installing, again made me think that it is the HDD causing problems.

as far as other things that are in your sig that i might not be mentioning...

ab350m pro 4 3.30 bios
HDD 7200 seagate
windows 10 64x
zotac 1060 6gb
g.skill flare x f4-2400c15-16gfxr
corsair cx650m
wraith cooler
ryzen 7 1700

I am not at my comp right now but i will be back at it at 6am est or so.

zfournier, looks good, thanks.  If you had no problems with the HDD before, I would not think it would pick now to start failing.  If your freezes continue, then remove one of your memory sticks.  If it still fails, then try the other stick - only one.  If it still fails, then try one stick in slot A1, then B1 - again one at a time.  Enjoy, John.

well honestly my last computer kind of sh*t the bed, but it very well could have been the HDD failing. Like i said its not exactly promising either way. plus when i did have the comp running it was running at 100% disk use before there were lots of crashing. im not sure if that is just a bug or a fault of the HDD. I have also heard the HDD making lots of noise the other day. maybe im just paranoid but it is the only "old" part of the build lmao. SO i just assume try and eliminate it.

I believe ive tried the ram trick but i will try that aswell tomorrow morning if the new drive doesnt fix the problem.

Hopefullly i can get this thing running cus man i want to play on my new toy!! lmao.

AMD Motherboards : X399 Taichi CPU Temperature

Hey,

I have a similar setup as you:  X399 / Threadripper with ArchLinux, but I also dual boot Windows 10.

In UEFI there is no real OS running to throttle / idle the CPU, so it is pretty much running full blast (at least 1+ cores) which of course raises your temps.  So what you experience in UEFI is normal and expected.

EGN, thanks for your proof about the performance problem with the new 4.20 UEFI version. ASRock and I are sorry that you had that experience with that new UEFI version. You are right that there is a problem with the 4.20 UEFI, sorry to say.

I have some news about the new AM4 UEFIs with the 1.0.7.2 AGESA microcode. ASRock knows there is a problem with them, and has now removed them from all the AM4 mother board UEFI/BIOS download pages. Those UEFI versions are not dangerous, but the performance issue will be fixed as soon as possible. Exactly when the new UEFI versions will be available, I do not know at this time.

Anyone that has updated to an AM4 4.xx UEFI version dated in early December, 2017 (12/1/2017 - 12/10/2017) should use Instant Flash to change back to the UEFI version that was issued prior to the version with the AGESA 1.0.7.2 microcode.

For example, for the A320M-HDV, A320M-DGS, A320M Pro4, AB350M-HDV, Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4, AB350 Pro4, and the AB350M Pro4, that would be UEFI version 3.30.

For the X370 Killer SLI and X370 Killer SLI/ac boards, the Fatal1ty X370 Gaming X, Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4,  Fatal1ty X370 Gaming-ITX/ac, and Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac, that would be version 3.40.

For the Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming, A320M, and the AB350M, that is version 3.10.

For the X370 Taichi, that is version 3.20.

It is completely safe to change to the previous UEFI version using Instant Flash. If you've never used Instant Flash, instructions can be found in the link below, or with the link on the BIOS download page for your board:

http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=BIOS8

If anyone has questions about this, feel free to ask.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused ASRock AM4 users.

Hello,

I recently upgraded my CPU to R5 1600X, runs it on Auto clock speed on voltage and HWMonitor reads the Max Voltage (CPU VCORE) hits 1.5v. Is it fine or I probably have issues on my board?

I'm using ASRock B350 Pro4 Motherboard with P4.20 BIOS

Other system information:

RAM Corsair LPX 2666 16GB (2x8)
GPU Zotac GTX 1060 6GB AMP
PSU Bitfenix Whisper 550W
Storage 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD

Thank you so much for replying.
The only thing that's still of concern for me, though, is when I set the "Dr. Debug" display on the Motherboard to show CPU Temperature, the Temperature shown there is 60-70 degrees as well, throughout the time that I'm within the Operating System.  Do you think that can be ignored for the same reasons you mentioned before?

Interesting link and fix. I hope you don't need to resort to such a thing. A few suggestions for you to try and fix your situation.

Device Manager should show the model name of the WiFi adapter when you open the list of devices under Network adapters. What model do you have? My board uses the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168.

When Network Adapters is open in Device Manager, I have eight WAN Miniport entries. Did you happen to check them to see if they are working properly?

Do you have the Bluetooth driver installed? You'll see at least two Bluetooth entries in the Device Manager entries under Network Adapters. AFAIK the Bluetooth driver is NOT required for the WiFi adapter to operate normally.

Clear the UEFI/BIOS with the boards jumper. Please don't dismiss this as worthless, I recall it worked for someone in the past.

In the UEFI, Advanced\South Bridge Configuration screen, check that the WAN Radio option is set to Enabled. It is Enabled by default. If I set WAN Radio to Disabled in the UEFI/BIOS, when I open the WiFi option from the Network status screen in Windows, WiFi is set to Off. The Device Manager entry for the WiFi device does not indicate if WiFi is set to On or Off in Windows. As soon as I set WiFi to On in Windows, I get a list of WiFi networks.

Open the Windows Power Options, and click Additional power settings to open the Edit Plan Settings screen. Click Change advanced power settings. Find the Wireless Adapter Settings option, click the '+' to reveal Power Saving Mode. Select the Maximum Performance setting, and click Apply.

Open the Device Manager Properties for your wireless adapter card. Open the Power Management tab. Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power option.

Check the Resource tab and see if you find No conflicts in the Conflicting device list.

The Device Manager Advanced tab has many options you can configure for the WiFi adapter. You could go through those options and try changing the default settings to see if that makes a difference. Such as, set Transmit Power to Highest, or set Throughput Booster to Enabled.

In the Details tab you could check the Problem code property (all zeros is false, no problem) or the Has problem entry (mine is <false>). So many property entries, if they are worth anything for debugging.

Finally, you could try and examine the WiFi adapter itself, to see if both antennas wires are connected, or if the adapter is not inserted in its slot correctly.

AMD Motherboards : Black screen, no USB working, fans running

Subject: Black screen, no USB working, fans running
Posted: 13 Dec 2017 at 1:38pm

Setup:
MOBO: ASRock A320M Pro4 Micro ATX
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 quad-core
Memory: 16 GB G.Skill Aegis DDR4-2133
GPU: MSI GTX 1050TI 4GB (dual fan)
HDD: Toshiba 500GB 3.5" 7.2k RPM SATA
PSU: Corsair CX450 450W 80+
OS: Windows 10 Home

So starting about a month ago and becoming more frequent, I've been having my computer screen go black (says it doesn't have a signal, doesn't reconnect when I disconnect/reconnect to the GPU or switch it to MOBO output), keyboard and mouse stop working (both USB), USB bluetooth stops working, USB mic stops working, and ethernet light stops flashing. The computer seems to stay on, as the fans keep running and the power light stays on, not blinking (which it usually does while asleep). The fans will run for at least 24 hours, and only turn off when I hard boot the computer or remove power.

It originally only happened when I was playing games, which was likely because I use another computer for most work and only use this computer for gaming. This week, when I started spending more time on the computer to diagnose the problem it started getting these crashes during normal operation, even sometimes with no applications running. By yesterday, the crashes became so frequent that I had difficulty getting through boot and login to even see my desktop. When I did get to my desktop, it would crash within 1-2 minutes.

Earlier this week (before the computer became inoperable), I tried testing out some of the components to see if I could find the problem. I thought the GPU could be overheating and causing the black screen, so I monitored heat while running some high graphics games and never saw a temp over 55C. While running through event files I noticed automatic system diagnostics which had supposedly found the HDD and CPU were working fine (at least at the time of the diagnostic). I didn't find any event files which could explain the crashes themselves, although some warning said there was low memory. The HDD is several years old, but has 300+ GB free memory as of right now. I got the HDD in September from a friend who said he's never had problems with it. It was formatted in September when I put it in this PC. All the other parts are new.

Any ideas on what might be causing the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Does the AB 350M have USB 3.1 ports? Or plain 3.0? The website says 3.1 but the manual states 3.0.
