AMD Motherboards : EPS Connectors

Hi,
I recently purchased an X570 Extreme 4 board and noticed it has 8 and 4 PIN CPU EPS connectors.
Is it necessary to have BOTH connected or will just the single 8 pin suffice?
I am running a Ryzen 3600 stock with no overclock.

Regards
Sam

There is no need to use the 4 pin connector with the Ryzen 3600.

How did you find out that when the system is not booting up?

With a backplate and correct mounting there should be no bending.
If you want to test the board on the desk, better use (enough) standoffs for the mainboard.

Like that:

WORKAROUND!!!! X470D4U !!! UNPLUG THE MONITOR FROM THE BOARD!!!

I have had two of these mainboards and both behave in exactly the same way with regard to system hanging/freezing, loss of IPMI functionality. But I found a work-around that makes the IPMI/KVM functional.

!!!UNPLUG THE MONITOR FROM THE BOARD!!! then use the IPMI/KVM to view the console session it will function properly.

* i tried two different monitors, two different mainboards and same result. During the boot process ie before the bios screen if you are attached to the IPMI/KVM session the system will have all kinds of issues which i mention above.

BMC firmware 1.60
BIOS ver. P3.20

** UPDATE!

After working with asrock and providing them all the details to reproduce the fault which we discovered there was more ( their test monitor was low resolution so it did not bring out the issue).

After confirming that the resolution of the attached monitor is a factor ( higher res monitors bring out the BUG ). Asrock quickly produced and supplied me with a new BMC FW 1.94.00. This appears to have solved the problem.

So my thoughts on this mainboard and Asrock are positive. I can now say that I recommend this serverboard.

Installed the latest 5.5 driver on my X370 Killer board and my system has better memory support than ever before.
I'm running what would occasionally error out with 2666Mhz settings on bootup stable now at 2800Mhz.
I'm happy.
CPU is a 1600.

Dear Elightstorm,

Greetings, this is ASRock TSD.

Referring your question, please verify the suggestions below:

1. Please install only one HDD on different SATA ports.
2. Please make sure PSU supply the power to HDD is working properly.
3. Please install only one HDD to SATA power cable.
4. Please clear CMOS to verify.

After setting the MoBo up, connecting the LAN cable to the first ethernet port I was surprised, because for some reason two IPs got assigned. Turns out the IPMI is now available via the first port.

My issue: i can't change that. #settings/network/ip gives me only a bond0 interface I can select from, instead of eth0, eth1 eth2 like I would expect it.

As I want to move the IPMI interface to a physically separate network - can somebody tell me how to do this?

Factory reset the bios and the BMC/IPMI and it will work fine.

* keep your monitor unplugged from the mainboard and it will work a lot better, while you are trying to use the IPMI/KVM ;-)

AMD Motherboards : X570 Phantom Gaming 4 not recognising M.2 SSD

Hi, have a new upgrade to the innards of my PC case:
X570 Phantom Gaming 4
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Kingston HyperX FURY 16G (2x 8's)
Crucial P1 1TB M.2
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Ti video card

What I'm discovering, is that the Crucial P1 is not being recognised, despite being on the Storage QVL.
I originally had it in the M2_1 slot, with no joy. Based on googling and frustrated trial and error moved it to M2_3. This did make a change, in that in the list of storage devices, I could now see the empty slot, prior to this, none of the M2 slots showed up.

Was originally on the 1.4 BIOS iirc. Have trialled the "2.50 2019/11/13" bios, and am currently running the "[Beta] L2.56 2019/11/25" bios. All to no change.
Have trialled fiddling with what settings seemed relevant from research here and elsewhere, all to no joy.

From what I can see in this forum and others, the ASRock MB's do consistently have trouble with the M2 SSDs. So I'm guessing it's possible a fix is beyond their expertise.

Does anyone have a defined solution that does work? or is this a return to place of purchase and buy a different brand solution?

Cheers!

Hi there, this is my firat post, and I just want to know if it safe to update my bios, and if possible to downgrade to an older bios?
my current MB is A320M-HDV and is using P5.90 bios, and Ryzen 3 2200G APU.
Is it safe for me to upgrade into P6.00?
And is it possible to downgrade into p5.50 or older?

Thanks before.
