OK, I figured this out. The problem wasn't secure boot at all - the problem is that this motherboard is extremely finicky about USB storage devices it works with. The problem is particularly bad with USB3 devices and the faster they are the less likely they seem to work.

I eventually found a slow USB2 storage device to install from that wasn't erroring out.

As far as I can tell this is a firmware bug.

Many thanks, this is the offical reply from Asrock:

Hello,

Using a single 8-pin connector is fine. The additional 4-pin connector can be useful for more extreme overclocking.

Kind regards,

In no particular order:

- USB storage boot device compatibility
EPYCD8 seems extremely picky about USB storage devices it will successfully boot from. I tried a USB3 Zalman DVD emulator, and a few different USB sticks. Most start to boot but error out before they can finish loading the kernel. Eventually I found an older USB2 memory stick that seemed to work OK. The problem seems to be with the BIOS, as after the kernel and the USB controller driver load, everything works fine, including high speed USB3 devices, without any errors.

- Display output with multiple GPUs is wrong
When an additional GPU is added, if Asrock boot logo is disabled, no display output showing the boot options (e.g. Del/F2) appears, and BIOS setup doesn't display. At this point the only way back to a BIOS configuration is a full CMOS reset via a switch on the motherboard (not all boards have the switch soldered on, shorting with a paperclip is required if the switch is absent.
Additionally, when an external GPU is present and the boot logo enabled, this always shows on the external GPU, even when the primary display in BIOS is set to on-board.

- No legacy option ROMs display when an external GPU is present and their configuration is inaccessible (e.g. SAS controllers).

- With 7xx2 CPUs, all manual CPU configuration options are ignored, including TDP limits, boost clocks, custom P state clocks and voltages.

It would be really useful if at least some of these bugs could be fixed in a future BIOS update.

1) I don't know for sure but I can confirm that a 1080Ti works in the x8 slots. Most GPUs (with the exception of some older, poorly designed AMD ones), o my draw fan power from the slot and everything else comes down the auxiliary power connector.

2) I'm pretty sure all 7xx1 and 7xx2 CPUs will work fine. I have mine running with a 7402P.

3) While there are a few anomalies that come up with external GPUs (see my recent thread on BIOS bugs), a recent GPUs with UEFI firmware should work just fine. Make sure you enable "Above 4GB Decoding" option to make the BIOS map the apertures without the constraints of having to fit them below the 4GB limit.

AMD Motherboards : Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITX/ac support cTDP?

I am in the process of building my new HTPC based on Asrock Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITX/ac .
In my previous ITX builds also based on your motherboards there was option ( If I remember corectly) to set maximum TDP in UEFI BIOS . In my current motherboard I can only find "system configuration" in exactly same position as was cTDP control in bios of previous motherboards( Advanced\AMD CBS\NBIO Common Option ) . But this option is very limited ( only to 35 W) and distinguish between consumer and commercial mashines . Therefore I don't really know If it is similar to cTDP Control .
I upgraded Bios to the newest one (3.70), but still I was unable to find cTDP Control . Perhaps   there is another   version of UEFI which contains that option, as that new version is even not recommended for ny CPU by Asrock?

MB: ASrock X399 Phantom Gaming 6 (BIOS 1.30)
CPU Threadripper 2920x Retail Box
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600 (XMP profile applied)
GPU: EVGA RTX2080 Super FTW3
Storage: XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro 512GB NVME/ Inland 256GB NVME

Clean install Windows 10 X64 Pro (build 1909
Clean install AMD Chipset drivers: (Nov 25 2019) 1.11.22.0454

System boots and runs from 512GB NVME in "M2_3" slot. "M2_2" is populated with Inland 256GB NVME.
"M2_1 and M2_4 are unpopulated"
System memory is installed in "DDR4_A2" and "DDR4_B2"
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G3 power supply is plugged into both "ATX12V1" and "ATX12V2"
Eco mode switch is off on power supply

BIOS is @ default settings except CPU_Fan2 is set to W_PUMP and XMP profile applied @ 3600 for RAM.

Description of problem:

Windows 10 freezes/hard locks while idle. Occasionally I will get a BSOD for DPC_Watchdog_Violation. Nothing meaningful is ever logged in event viewer

System never locks under load (even 12 hour gaming sessions).
This really feels to me like some sort of power management issue.

I have tried Disabling C3/S3 in the BIOS, disabled all Virtualization support (IOMMU etc..) nothing seems to help.

ASrock has to be aware of this issue, but I cannot get them to respond via the instructed communication channels. I find it hard to believe that a company owned by ASUS would just ignore support requests.

ASRock if you are reading this: This is the holiday season in the United States which you should be well aware of: You should staff support accordingly during the next 2 months. Support after the sale is 100% required in the US if you want to do business here.

Thanks,
-Mike

Problem:
When I place the SSD in, I can't see the UEFI boot options - the system is booting I think - from the sounds of it, Numlock is activated, mouse and keyboard lights up as normal, but no graphics are shown - I can't configure anything.

SSD: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/consumer-ssds/6-series/ssd-660p-series/660p-series-1-tb-m-2-80mm-3d2.html

1TB INTEL SSD 660P
PCIe M.2 NVMe

1.) Bios is 3.20 (not listed here: http://asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M%20Pro4/index.asp#BIOS)
2.) Graphics card: EVGA GTX770 4GB Classified - in PCIe Slot 4
3.) AMD Chipset: Ryzen5 1600
4.) 16 GB Ram in AD & B2
5.) SATA HDD Boots
6.) SATA DVD Drive Boots
7.) Can load windows to HDD from flash drive to HDD #1

From what I can tell, the bottom port:M2_2 doesn't support this card... only the top M2_1 port does
- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4
- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module
from:
http://asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M%20Pro4/index.asp#Specification

Tried: Reading this: http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1236&title=how-to-install-windows-on-a-pcie-ssd
But the screen goes black when the M.2 PCIe SSD is installed

Haven't Tried Yet:
Swapping Graphics Cards
Fully Installing Windows
Updating BIOS (seems like this maybe a poor choice given the warnings on the page: http://asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M%20Pro4/index.asp#BIOS

Hey,
I bought an Asrock b450m pro4 motherboard.
The motherboard has 2 M.2 sockets (Ultra M.2 and M.2).
I'm trying to use both sockets, but it seems the secondary M.2 socket is not working.
The NVMe I'm trying to use has been used yesterday on a laptop.
P.S, PCI3E is in use.
Is it a Bios setting?
Thanks :)

Figured it out.
PCIE4 is the bottom one of the two PCIe Slots -- this slot is disabled when the Ultra M.2 Slot (M2_1) is utilized by a PCIe compatible SSD Card.

So if my graphics card was in PCIe4 slot -- the boot process would occur, but the graphics card wouldn't show anything and I lost the ability to configure. I moved the graphics card to PCIe2 - and everything works.

Hi all was wondering ever since I upgraded to a 3700x for my x470 Taichi my CPU temps while gaming will reach max up to about 73c. I think this is normal but while encoding using handbrake from say mp4 to mkv I noticed the temps reach up to 83c. I know ryzen 3000 runs hot but is this pretty normal? I have PBO disabled in the BIOS. My system specs with my cooler listed below.

Thanks

Makes sense yours will be cooler than mine with water cooling. I think it's normal based on many reporting similar results. I came across this from Noctua:
https://noctua.at/en/why-is-my-ryzen-3000-processor-getting-so-hot-why-are-ryzen-3000-cpus-running-hotter-than-previous-generation-ryzen-cpus-with-the-same-tdp-rating-is-there-anything-wrong-with-my-cooler

I applied thermal paste correctly a pea size dot right in the middle, I guess I have nothing to worry about based on the response from Noctua :D
